10 Uncommonly Used Filipino Words

Have you ever attended a Filipino class and the teacher suddenly blurts out an unfamiliar word and you thought you misheard it or you just really don’t know what it means? Worry not folks, you’re not the only one.

For this blog post, I’ll be posting 10 Uncommonly Used Filipino Words as per the title and let you be amazed how the Filipino language can be so amazing and weird at the same time.

You ready?

The first one is SULATRONIKO: This is a system for sending messages from one computer to another computer or commonly known  in English as email. Let’s try using it in a sentence.

“Ipapadala ko ang listahan ng kakailanganing mga gamit sa pamamagitan ng sulatroniko. Abangan mo ha?”

The second one is KARUMLAN:  This is common for girls who’s experiencing the ovulation period or commonly known in English as menstruation. In a sentence, it would be like this:

“Iiwasan ko muna ang pag-inom ng malalamig na inumin ngayon, nakadadagdag daw ito ng sakit sa puson tuwing may karumlan.”

The third one is HAYNAYAN: This is a branch of Science that deals with life or commonly known in English as Biology. Let’s try putting this in a sentence.

“Naisulat mo ba ang takdang aralin natin sa Haynayan?”

The fourth one is INITSIGAN: This is science that deals about the action of the heat and related forms of heat or in English, it’s Thermodynamics. In a sentence, it would would be like this:

“Nag-aral ba kayo patungkol sa initsigan na ibinigay ng guro?”

The fifth one is MIKTINIG: It is an instrument whereby sound waves are caused to generate or modulate an electric current usually for the purpose of transmitting or recording sound as speech/music or in short, a microphone. Let’s use it in a sentence.

“Ilabas ang miktinig upang makapagsimula na tayo sa diskusyon at nang marinig ng lahat ang aking sasabihin.”

The sixth one is POOK-SAPOT: This is a place on the World Wide Web that contains information about a person, organization, and others. In short, this is website. In a sentence, it would be like this:

“Anong pook-sapot nga ang hinahayaan kang makipag-usap sa mga di mo kakilala?”

The seventh one is PANGHIBAYO:  This is an electronic device for increasing the amplitude of electrical signals, used chiefly in sound reproduction or commonly know as an amplifier. Let’s try using this in a sentence.

“Maaari bang hiramin ang iyong panghibayo para sa aming pag-eensayo?”

The eighth one is PANG-ULONG HATINIG:  This is an electronic device for increasing the amplitude of electrical signals, used chiefly in sound reproduction or in English, it’s called earphones. In a sentence, it would be like this:

“Pakikuha nga ng pang-ulong hatinig sa aking bag.”

The ninth one is PANTABLAY: This is a device for charging storage batteries or in the English language it’s called a charger. Let’s try using this in a sentence.

“Hala! Naubos na ang baterya ng telepono. Kunin mo ang pantablay sa may mesa, bilis!”

And the last one is PANGINAIN: This is a computer program that is used to find and look at information on the Internet or commonly known as a browser. In a sentence, it would be like this:

“Makikita ba ang URL sa panginain na iyong cellphone?”

And there you have it! The ten uncommonly used Filipino words. I hope this post will help you in using the Filipino language and whatever this can help you with.
